Indraprastha Mahatmya

In the traditional method of frame tales, Narada recounts how in Vedic times, Narasimha gifted the auspicious Khandava-vana to Bhakt Prahlad and, King Indra organized a grand Yagya to purify the land - a ceremony blessed by Guru Brihaspati alongside Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. The manuscript culminates with Yudhishthira who, after learning of the various Tirthas established here by the divinities, resolves to perform the RajasuyaYagya at this very site. The core thematic elements comprise the origin of Indraprastha, the establishment of pilgrimage sites (Tirthas), and the doctrine of devotion. It details how the land-originally the dense Khandava forest - became a central locus of divine energy. After Lord Narasimha destroyed the demon king Hiranyakashipu and restored the heavens to Prahlada, Devendra (Indra) sought to secure his kingdom through a grand sacrifice (Yajna). On the advice of Devaguru Brihaspati, he chose the pristine banks of the Yamuna River. Lord Vishnu-manifested alongside Brahma and Mahesh¬ordered the spiritual mapping of the cosmos onto this single location. Because Indra distributed massive donations measured in prasthas of gold and gems here, the realm became immortalized as Indraprastha.
